DRESS LIKE AN ONION 🧅 and ALWAYS bring a rain jacket. You could get sunburned, struck by lightning, drenched in rain/hail, and snowed on in the span of 1 hour.
Bring plenty of layers. Aside from your ceremony/reception attire, we recommend bringing casual clothes that you are comfortable in. At a minimum, you should bring:
Rain jacket and/or umbrella
Sweater/ fleece midlayer
Light puffy/ warm outerlayer
Warm hat, light gloves
For activities:
Hiking or athletic clothes
Bathing suit and sandals/flip flops for hot tub
Clothes (including outerwear) that can get smoky from a campfire
A bag to hold stuff for hiking
Additionally, for sun protection:
Sun hoodie
Umbrella for sun, wide brim hat, baseball cap
Sunglasses
We generally don't wear shorts in the summer due to cool temps, leg protection, and harsh sun.
Think summer cocktail! No need to dress formal. We want you to wear what you feel comfortable in, but remember that it does get chilly here in the mountains at night and both the ceremony and reception will take place outdoors (weather permitting).
If you are planning on wearing a dress, make sure you bring a cover-up or jacket as the temperature will drop quickly when the sun sets. You may want to consider an ankle-length dress that providers more coverage for bugs in the evening, or plan on using some bug spray!
Suitcoats/ vests are not required. Slacks/pants are recommended instead of shorts and if you are planning on wearing short sleeves, bring a jacket or sweater to don in the evening.
Leave the heels at home, the grounds around the lodge are natural/uneven including the ceremony site. Bring sandals, comfortable walking shoes, hiking shoes, etc.
If doing the Ouray via ferrata, bring athletic shoes with good grip, ideally a flat rigid sole. Running shoes are ok, approach shoes are ideal.
There is a small general store in Silverton which should have the basics should you forget something, but plan to bring everything you need. Things we recommend packing:
Water bottle!!!
Book or offline activity
Headlamp - there isn't a streetlight for miles
Sunscreen
Bug spray
Chapstick + lotion + Vaseline - the air is very dry!
Headache medication
Indoor slippers
See the ACTIVITIES GUIDEBOOK. If doing the Ouray via ferrata, see VIA FERRATA INFO
